Learn with Pure Tallow
Know your ingredients. Choose with confidence.
Welcome to Learn with Pure Tallow. You deserve to understand what you’re buying, what it’s for and how to use it. This guide introduces our cooking fats, skincare, soaps and other store favourites, with straightforward explanations and practical benefits.
First, what is tallow?
Tallow is rendered animal fat. Rendering means heating fat to turn it into a usable ingredient. Beef tallow comes from cattle, while lamb tallow comes from sheep. Rendered pork fat is traditionally called lard, although you’ll also see it labelled pork tallow in our store.
Our tallow is triple-rendered. Our pure cooking tallows and fragrance-free beef tallow moisturizer have single-ingredient formulations. Other products combine tallow with ingredients for a particular purpose, so always check the individual formula.
Natural ingredients, honest explanations
A familiar ingredient is a good starting point, but understanding the full recipe matters. Pure cooking tallow is different from scented soap, lip balm or a seasoned food. Depending on the product, the ingredient list may include fragrance, essential oils, soapmaking ingredients or other additions.
We don’t describe every product as single-ingredient, additive-free or chemical-free. Water, fats and minerals are all made of chemicals too. Natural also does not automatically mean suitable for everyone: fragrances can irritate sensitive skin, animal-derived products are not vegan, and food allergens still matter. Read the product page and packaging to make the right choice for you.
Cooking tallow: flavour and versatility
What you’re buying: beef or lamb tallow, or pork cooking fat, in convenient formats including cubes and larger containers.
Why choose it: an animal-based alternative to cooking oil for frying, roasting and searing. Beef tallow brings rich flavour to steak and roast potatoes. Lamb tallow suits lamb dishes and vegetables. Pork fat can also be used in suitable pastry recipes.
How to use it: add the amount your recipe needs to a pan or roasting tray and avoid overheating. Our 250g beef tallow cube pack contains 34 cubes for convenient portioning. Follow the storage instructions and best-before date on the packaging.

Fragrance-free tallow balm: simple skincare
What you’re buying: our fragrance-free beef tallow moisturizer contains 100% grass-fed beef tallow, with no added fragrance, essential oils, seed oils, dyes or synthetic preservatives.
Why choose it: a rich moisturizer with a short ingredient list for a simple skincare routine. Fragrance-free means no added fragrance; the tallow may retain its natural scent.
How to use it: warm a small amount between your palms and apply a thin layer to clean skin. The balm becomes firmer in cooler conditions and softer in warmth. Patch test before first use, avoid the eyes and stop if irritation occurs. For external use only. This is a moisturizer, not a treatment for skin conditions.

Lip balm: everyday lip care
Our lip balms have different formulas, so choose by ingredients as well as scent. The peppermint version contains grass-fed beef tallow and peppermint essential oil. Its practical benefit is a convenient balm format for your daily lip-care routine.
Apply a small amount as directed. Essential oils may irritate some people, so discontinue use if irritation occurs.
Tallow soap: cleansing with a solid bar
What you’re buying: tallow made into soap, not a bar of raw fat. Our unscented soap lists grass-fed beef tallow, water and sodium hydroxide, an ingredient used in soapmaking.
Why choose it: a solid cleanser for everyday washing, with unscented and scented options. Soap is rinsed off; skincare balm stays on. They serve different purposes.
Lather with water, wash and rinse thoroughly. Avoid the eyes and stop if irritation occurs. Allow the bar to dry on a draining soap dish between uses.

Laundry soap: tallow beyond skincare
Our tallow laundry soap flakes are grated soap for laundry washing, pre-soaking or spot treatment as directed. The flake format lets you measure the quantity specified on the label.
Check garment care instructions and your washing machine manufacturer’s guidance before use. Test on a small, hidden area before treating delicate or coloured fabrics. Do not assume suitability for every machine or fabric. Household soap is not food or skincare.

Ghee: clarified butter for your kitchen
Ghee is made by simmering butter so water evaporates and milk solids separate. Our ghee lists 100% clarified butter from cow’s milk. Its practical benefit is rich, buttery flavour for frying, sautéing and roasting. It is milk-derived; do not assume it is dairy-free. Check the allergen information.
Bone broth: a savoury cooking staple
Our beef bone broth contains beef bones, filtered water, apple cider vinegar, rock salt and bay leaves. Use it as a flavourful base for soups, stews, potjies and sauces, or warm a portion to enjoy on its own. Broth powders provide another convenient format, prepared according to their labels.
Keep our liquid beef broth frozen until use. Refrigerate after defrosting and use within seven days, following any additional packaging instructions.

Celtic sea salt: seasoning and texture
Our Celtic sea salt is an unrefined seasoning salt without additives or anti-caking agents. Its slightly moist, coarser texture suits everyday cooking and finishing dishes. Natural moisture can cause clumping. Use to taste; it is still salt, not a health treatment.
Collagen powder: a convenient drink addition
Our unflavoured grass-fed collagen powder can be mixed into suitable drinks according to the packaging instructions. Check its source information, allergens and serving size. Choose it for the format and ingredients, rather than expecting guaranteed changes to skin, joints or health.
Magnesium products: choose the right form
We stock magnesium glycinate capsules, magnesium chloride flakes and topical magnesium spray. These have different intended uses and are not interchangeable. Capsules offer a supplement format; the spray is for external use only. Use flakes only according to their product-specific directions, not as an assumed food or drink ingredient.
Follow labelled doses and precautions. Consult a healthcare professional before supplement use if pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or managing a medical condition. These products should not be relied on to treat illness.

Fresh kimchi: bold flavour for your plate
Our fresh mustard leaf kimchi is sold fresh and unfermented. Enjoy its crisp texture and bold seasoning as a side dish, rather than assuming it is a fermented probiotic product. Its ingredients include chilli, garlic, ginger, sugar, Miwon flavour enhancer, oyster sauce and fish sauce.
This variety contains fish, shellfish and wheat (gluten), and may contain traces of soy. It is not vegan or vegetarian. Keep refrigerated and follow the expiry date. Check each kimchi listing for its own ingredients and allergens.

Before you buy
Choose by purpose first: cooking fats for cooking, balm for moisturizing, body soap for cleansing and laundry soap for laundry. Do not eat skincare or household products, even when they contain familiar food ingredients.
Check the ingredients, allergens, pack size, directions and storage instructions. A natural ingredient or zinc oxide in a formula does not, on its own, establish a tested SPF rating. Do not assume proven sun or mosquito protection without product-specific evidence.
Keep products closed, use clean utensils and follow the packaging. Have a question about an ingredient or which product to choose? Ask us before you buy. We want you to understand what you’re bringing into your kitchen, skincare routine or home.
